Create future-proof employees by signing up to Birmingham City University’s Higher Education qualifications, combining academic know-how with real workplace experience.

What are Higher and Degree Apprenticeships?

Higher and degree apprenticeships are a high-quality alternative to a traditional university degree, allowing students to achieve the benefits of a higher education qualification while working full-time, gaining valuable industry experience.

The government has set a target of creating three million apprenticeships by 2020 and has developed a new employer-led body, the Institute for Apprenticeships, to regulate quality. Apprenticeships will be funded by a new levy on employers with a payroll bill of £3 million or more.

Why Higher and Degree Apprenticeships?

Higher and Degree Apprenticeships are designed with the purpose of providing work-ready talent for your business.

Benefits to your businesses

  • An apprentice can bring in new skills, motivation and problem-solving abilities, saving your company time and money
  • You will be partnering with a university that prides itself on ensuring our students stand out in the employment crowd, and have helped thousands of businesses achieve their objectives
  • An attractive offering to future employees. Our apprentices’ exposure to relevant work experience will allow them to gain real-world skills without taking on the debt associated with standard degree courses.

How do higher or degree apprenticeships work?

Our apprentices will separate their time between studying with us and working for your business, earning a full-time wage and getting invaluable workplace experience. Throughout their apprenticeship, they will make connections with people in their chosen industry, and once completed will have between three and six years’ work experience and a degree-level qualification.
